How Ordering Raw Dog Food from RawFedK9 Really Works
Ordering raw dog food for the first time can feel way more complicated than it actually is. Between protein choices, portion sizes, and delivery schedules, it’s easy to second-guess yourself before you even add anything to your cart.
So let’s slow it down and walk through how ordering from RawFedK9 actually works, in plain language, no pressure, and no overthinking required.
Step 1: Figure Out How Much Your Dog Eats
Before choosing proteins, the first thing you’ll want to know is how much food your dog needs per day. That number helps guide how much to order so you’re not constantly running out or overstocking your freezer.
On our website, we offer a Raw Feeding Calculator (scroll towards the bottom of this page, and you will find it) that uses your dog’s weight and general activity level to give you a solid starting point. From there, you can adjust as needed. For example, during more active months, long summer days, extra hikes, and more time outside, you may want to increase how much you’re feeding to help maintain weight. In quieter seasons, like winter (especially here in the Upper Midwest, where cold and snow can limit outdoor time, and yes, the real feel is currently -21° as we write this), it’s completely normal to decrease portions back slightly.
Once you know roughly how many ounces per day your dog eats, the rest gets much easier.
Step 2: Decide Where Your Dog Is Starting
Not every dog comes to RawFedK9 from the same place, and that matters.
Some dogs are brand new to raw dog food. Others are already eating raw and are just switching brands. Ordering looks a little different depending on that starting point.
-
New to raw: We usually recommend starting with a Transition Pack, which begins with pure meat before gradually introducing bone and organ, which is our Complete Mix (PMR).
-
Already raw-fed: If your dog is already eating a raw diet, we recommend starting with our Complete Mix (PMR) and gradually feeding it alongside your current raw food. This helps keep digestion steady while your dog adjusts to our formulas, sourcing, and bone content. You can slowly increase the amount of RawFedK9 while decreasing the old food until you’ve fully transitioned.
If you’re unsure which category your dog fits into, that’s completely normal, and we’re always happy to help you decide. Our Raw Feeding Guide breaks this process down step by step, including what to feed, how quickly to transition, and what’s normal to expect along the way.
Step 3: Choose Your Proteins (Think Rotation)
When ordering raw dog food, variety matters. We offer a wide selection of proteins, each with its own flavor and fat profile, and pricing can vary slightly depending on the protein you pick.
We generally suggest feeding 3–4 different proteins each month, rotating not just protein sources but also fat levels. This keeps meals interesting for your dog and adds natural variety over time.
Here’s how it works on the website:
-
Each product comes with two box options for patties, allowing you to choose two different proteins per order.
-
Medallions come with three boxes, giving you the option to mix three different proteins in a single order.
You don’t have to order every protein at once. Many customers start with one or two familiar favorites and add one or two new proteins to rotate in over time.
Rotation doesn’t have to be complicated; you can feed two different proteins in one meal, switch proteins every meal, or rotate weekly. Do whatever works best for you and your dog. The flexibility of our boxes and protein options makes it easy to mix and match to fit your routine.
Step 4: Pick Patties or Medallions
This part comes down to how you like to feed and portion meals.
-
Patties weigh 8oz each and are great for medium to large dogs or anyone who prefers fewer pieces per meal.
-
Medallions weigh 3oz each and work well for small dogs, precise portioning, or mixing multiple proteins in the same bowl.
Both options thaw quickly and make it easy to adjust portions without overthinking it.
Step 5: Understanding Pricing and Subscriptions
On each product page, you’ll select a protein for each box option. As you click through different protein choices, the price will update so you can see how your selections affect the total.
If you scroll down the page, you’ll see two purchase options:
-
A Subscribe & Save option that takes 5% off
-
A One-time purchase option
Subscriptions are designed to be flexible, not locked in. You can manage your subscription at any time, including:
-
Changing proteins
-
Adjusting how often it ships
-
Skipping an order
-
Updating the date of your next shipment
You’re always in control, and you can make changes as often as you need.
Step 6: Place Your Order and Plan for Monday Shipping
All orders ship on Mondays, with a 12 pm CST cutoff for that week’s shipment.
Orders placed, or subscription orders processed, after 12 pm CST on Monday will ship the following Monday. This helps ensure everything is packed properly and shipped frozen so it arrives ready to go straight into your freezer.
Before placing your order, it’s always a good idea to do a quick freezer check. Raw dog food does take up space, especially if you’re ordering multiple proteins or stocking up for rotation.
Step 7: Keep It Simple Going Forward
After your first order, most people realize ordering raw dog food isn’t nearly as intimidating as it seemed at first.
You’ll start to notice:
-
Which proteins your dog prefers
-
How long does an order lasts
-
What order size works best for your freezer and schedule
From there, reordering becomes routine.
You’re Not On Your Own
If there’s one thing we want people to know, it’s this: you don’t have to figure everything out by yourself.
If you’re unsure what to order, how much to get, or how to rotate proteins, reach out. We’re real people feeding real dogs, and we’re always happy to help talk things through.
Ordering raw dog food from RawFedK9 should feel approachable, not overwhelming.
