Why RawFedK9 Offers So Many Protein Options

If you have spent any time looking through the RawFedK9 lineup, you have probably noticed that we offer a variety of protein options. There are familiar options like beef, chicken, and pork, along with proteins you may not see every day, such as kangaroo, beaver, lamb, and venison. For someone placing their first order, seeing that many choices can bring up a pretty reasonable question: Do I really need all of these options?

You certainly don't need to keep every RawFedK9 protein in your freezer at once. We offer a large selection because we believe variety should be easy to incorporate into a raw-feeding routine. Rather than choosing one protein and feeding it month after month, we recommend rotating three to four different proteins each month. Having plenty of options gives customers the freedom to create that rotation in a way that works for their dog, their freezer, and their normal feeding routine.

Different Proteins Really Are Different

It can be easy to think of meat as simply meat, especially when the finished product is ground and formed into the same familiar patty or medallion. When you start comparing individual proteins, though, there are some pretty noticeable differences.

Each protein naturally has its own fat percentage, moisture level, protein percentage, calorie content, texture, color, and consistency. Beef, for example, is naturally different from chicken, just as kangaroo is different from duck. Those differences are part of the ingredients themselves, and they are one of the reasons we don't look at our protein lineup as a collection of interchangeable flavors.

You can see those differences clearly on our Nutritional Information page. There, we break down the ingredients, moisture, fat, protein, calories, and other available nutritional information for our proteins so you can compare them side by side instead of simply choosing based on the name on the box.

Take a Look at the Numbers

A few examples from our lineup show just how different proteins can be, even when you're comparing the same 8-ounce amount.

Protein Moisture Fat Protein Calories per 8 oz
Beef 60.44% 19.01% 20.90% 577
Chicken 75.78% 10.55% 10.50% 317
Kangaroo 69.89% 3.13% 20.50% 276

An 8-ounce serving is an 8-ounce serving, but the numbers aren't going to look the same across every protein. Beef naturally contains considerably more fat and calories than kangaroo, while chicken has a higher moisture percentage than either of them. None of that makes one protein "better" than another. It simply shows why we think it's important to look at proteins individually instead of assuming they're all essentially the same food with a different name.

Our full lineup gives customers the ability to choose proteins with different characteristics rather than filling the freezer with several cases of the same thing.

Why We Recommend Three to Four Proteins a Month

At RawFedK9, our general recommendation is to rotate three to four different proteins throughout the month. That doesn't mean your dog needs a different protein at every meal, and it definitely doesn't mean you need a complicated feeding calendar hanging on the refrigerator.

Protein rotation can be as simple as working through what you have in your freezer. You might feed beef for several days and then open chicken. Later in the month, you might move on to pork or duck. Another household might keep several proteins thawed and alternate between them throughout the week. There isn't one schedule everyone has to follow. Others will even feed different proteins within the same meal, and that is okay and works too.

Offering a large protein selection simply gives you more choices when building that rotation. You can stick with familiar proteins, mix in something completely different, or change your selections from one order to the next. The goal is variety without turning feeding into something that feels complicated.

Familiar Proteins and Less Common Choices

We also know that not everyone wants the same proteins in their freezer. Beef, chicken, and pork are familiar choices for many households, while others enjoy exploring proteins they don't commonly find at their local pet store.

That's where options like kangaroo, beaver, duck, venison, bison, lamb, and our other available proteins come into the picture. Having both familiar and less common choices allows customers to build a rotation that isn't limited to the same two or three meats.

You don't need to start with the most unusual protein you can find, either. Someone new to RawFedK9 might begin with beef, chicken, pork, and one additional option. On the next order, they may decide to swap one of those for something different. Over time, it becomes easy to explore the lineup without feeling like you need to try everything at once.

Variety Doesn't Mean Buying Everything

When we say variety, we don't mean you need fifteen different proteins taking over your freezer.

In fact, we prefer keeping the recommendation simple. Choose different proteins and rotate through them during the month. We make this easy by offering two different proteins per complete mix full case. With the medallions, you can pick three different proteins per order. And with the complete mix value chubs 40lb option, you can select two different proteins per order. When it's time for your next order, you can reorder the ones you want to keep or change things up and try something different.

This also makes it easier to work with your available freezer space and normal feeding amount. Someone feeding one small dog is going to build a very different RawFedK9 order than a household feeding several large dogs. The number of cases and formats may change, but the idea of incorporating several protein choices can remain simple.

More Choices, Same Simple Approach

While the protein choices may change, the approach behind our Complete Mix formulas stays straightforward. RawFedK9 Complete Mix follows an 80% muscle meat, 10% bone, and 10% organ prey model raw structure without added fruits, vegetables, or grains.

Depending on the protein, the specific ingredients used to create that structure will naturally vary. This is another reason we encourage customers to actually look at the ingredient information for each formula instead of assuming every protein is identical aside from its primary meat source.

Our Nutritional Information page makes it easy to dig into those details before placing an order. If you're curious about a protein you've never tried before, that's where we recommend starting.

Building Your Next RawFedK9 Order

If all those choices still feel like a lot when you're looking at the website, don't overthink it. Start by choosing three or four proteins that interest you. You might select a combination of familiar proteins and something you haven't ordered before, or you might compare the nutritional information and choose proteins with noticeably different fat, moisture, and calorie levels.

From there, your rotation doesn't need to follow a strict formula. Work through what's in your freezer, pay attention to which products and formats fit your routine best, and make adjustments when it's time to place the next order. Raw feeding should fit into your everyday life, not require you to constantly plan the next meal.

That's ultimately why RawFedK9 offers so many protein options. We don't expect every customer to feed every protein we sell. We simply want you to have choices, because variety doesn't look the same in every freezer.
